Breathe In eBook Michelle Bellon
I've had the pleasure of working with Michelle Bellon for the past couple of months when she finally told me she was an author. So of course I had to look up her books and give it a go. I'll own I was skeptical and decided to make this my first choice. And what a pleasant surprise! It was fast paced and I was so disappointed it was over cause I wanted more. I found the characters relatable and could even empathize with Tessa's rage and anxiety. The hospital screens were accurately written which I was glad for. You dont see that a lot in fiction and I totally woulda poked fun at Michelle if they hadn't been haha. This book has anxiety enduring twists and turns that I enjoyed and have already recommended to a couple of friends. I cant wait to read more by Michelle.
If you're a woman who has ever experienced physical, emotional, or mental abuse you'll definitely relate to the main character. If you're a man, it will give you a touch of insight as to what survivors go through ever day. Now go grab a cup of coffee, find a sunny spot on a deck or porch, and dive I to this book. You'll be on chapter 10 by your second cup. I was.

Breathe In eBook Michelle Bellon Reviews
I received an arc through a group that normally offers romance based books, so a straight up thriller is not a genre I typically read. Hence, this is one heck of a book to have impressed and captivated me in the way that it did. I'd planned on reading it over a couple of days, but ended up reading late into the night (ok early hours!) to complete it.
Tessa can be annoying at times, but it makes her very human and real. She starts out as a doormat, allowing herself to be treated badly by others. I loved how she found her voice and her inner strength, as she comes to terms with her ordeal, and became that phoenix.
The book does feel a little slow at first, but that could have been because I was waiting for her to be kidnapped. Because of that the suspense and angst kicked off from the start for me! Kidnappers aside there are 3 male characters and, for me, they all became suspects, either on their own or in some combination, at different points in the book. That is the quality of the writing.
The plot is never confusing but various facts/observations emerge that turn your thoughts first one way, then the other. The kidnap scenes are dark and contain a lot of potential triggers. Tessa's reactions and feelings after the kidnap felt so very real and whilst some of her actions were criminal (and in a big way), you sort of couldn't blame her.
Some reviewers have mentioned about the romance in this book. As an avid romance reader, I personally found the romance very vague and minimal, but it isn't what the book is about so I was OK with that.
Whilst there is a very definite conclusion to the story, I didn't know where life was heading for Tessa. Would she continue her vigilante ways? Did she intend on commencing a relationship with Tobin? And the biggest was over the delivery of the SD card - for me that was the only unrealistic part of the book.
I've not read any work by this author before, but I will be keeping an eye out for her work in future.
Warning. This book contains some major triggers. It contains violence, sexual assault, and scenes of PTSD.
Tessa has a complicated love life. The man she likes, Tom, wants nothing to do with her. The man who likes her, Gerald, she wants nothing to do with. To unwind from her troubled life, Tessa goes out with a friend. What started as a fun night ends up in violent despair. Tessa is taken by two men, kidnapped and held hostage in a lone cabin. They videotape the mental and physical torture she experiences. Sure that she will not make it out alive, Tessa fights back and escapes. Yet the pain of her experience lingers—she suffers from serious PTSD, often turning violent herself. Determined to find out who orchestrated the kidnapping, Tessa and a cop Tobin, whom she begins to develop feelings for, seek out answers.
Breathe In is definitely not a novel for the faint of heart. Tessa endures things that take her to the very brink of a dangerous edge. It was hard to read what her kidnappers put it through. The process of her grief and anger was realistic and heartbreaking. The inner psychology of being the survivor of extreme abuse is well written and very emotional. It is hard not to feel for Tessa. And her anger? You don’t dislike her for what she does because you sympathize and understand her pain. The end came as a surprise, and the victory much needed. I can’t say she that her pain was assuaged, but the cathartic revenge at the end was enough to satisfy the need for resolution.
A very well written story about a dark subject. I enjoyed the telling of the story, though I think violence against women is wrong on so many levels.
This was a horrifying storyline because there are sick people in this world that might do something like this. I couldn't put it down because it has quite a few twists. Enjoyed this book overall even though it was heartbreaking in parts. Want to read more by this author.
Somehow I was able to get this book a few days ago. I started reading it Sunday night. Continued reading it last night. I'm not quite finished, but holy hell. Dark. Disturbing. Absolutely out of character for Michelle Bellon (compared to her other books). You absolutely feel for Tessa. Your heart & soul breaks with her. You will get angry & you will cry with her. Simply amazing.
If you like dark thrillers THIS book is right up your alley! If you've never read a Michelle Bellon book-this one is, seriously, her best book yet! I have loved them all, but this one ..WOW!
This story is a very, very dark thriller. It has some things in it that might upset some people. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Tessa is trying to just get through each day with the man she loves. He is not a nice man. He walks all over her, belittles her, he is a scum bag! Then she gets kidnapped one night and tied to a bed. There is a camera on her to show someone or some people just how she is going to die! Can she get away? Who would do such a thing? You will need to read the book to find the answers. I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, through Reading Deals, and I gave an honest review.
